Amtrak makes more Wisconsin connections

Amtrak Hiawatha Service passengers at Milwaukee can now make Thruway Service Connections using scheduled Jefferson Lines intercity buses to and from the Wisconsin cities of Sheboygan, Manitowoc, Green Bay, Shawano, Wittenberg, Wausau, Abbotsford, Stanley, Chippewa Falls, Eau Claire, Menomonie and Hudson. Amtrak Hiawatha Service trains operate between Milwaukee and Chicago, with seven daily round-trips Mondays through Saturdays and six round-trips on Sundays, sharing the new Milwaukee Intermodal Station with Jefferson Lines.

Passengers from these same dozen cities in north-central Wisconsin who wish to connect with the westbound Amtrak Empire Builder will also be able to do so at the Amtrak Station at St. Paul, Minnesota. The Empire Builder operates daily to Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, via Glacier National Park.

Northest Corridor Tracks Re-Energized

Amtrak is using $25 million in funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to replace transformers and other electrical equipment—some of which date to before World War II— at 40 substations that deliver the power needed to propel passenger trains on the electrified tracks.
