"Whether it's a day trip to the Big Apple or a weekend visit with family, Amtrak's new fare is perfect for the value conscious traveler," said Emmett Fremaux, Amtrak's vice president of marketing and product management.

In addition to travel between Washington, DC and Boston, the 25 percent off discount is also available on service south of Washington, DC to Newport News, on Amtrak's Vermonter service between Springfield, Mass. and Washington, DC, and on the Keystone service between Philadelphia and New York.

The summer discount may be combined with Amtrak's every day Kid's Half Price fare for up to two children ages 2 to 15, when accompanied by an adult. Upgrades to Business Class are not available. Seats are limited and fares may not be available on all trains at all times. Other restrictions may apply.

Additionally, Amtrak has extended the lower fares introduced on Acela Express last February.
