When the project is complete, crews will have removed and installed 5,500 ties and spread 13,100 tons of rock ballast to ensure a stable roadbed. Work began on this project January 9 and is scheduled to be completed by mid-February.

Union Pacific has spent $68 million on track improvement projects on its lines between Kansas City and St. Louis since 2006. Crews have replaced 325,600 ties, spread 400,000 tons of rock ballast to ensure a stable roadbed and replaced the surfaces in 334 road crossings.
