Extended contract with Amtrak

10/11/2007 AT 04:49

This extension is awarded after only 11 months of operation of the original 5 year contract, which shows the confidence of the customer within Alstom. The current contract, signed in March 2006, was a first-of-its-kind arrangement in terms of supply chain management for a major rail fleet in North America and demonstrated a unique partnership between Alstom and the customer.

Train availability is expected to be increased to 17 trains per day in 2007, from only 14 trains available when the supply chain contract was signed last year. How ? With the material availability, which has increased from 65% in 2006 to 99 %, in line with the contract requirements. 98% of all materials are delivered to 3 locations, New York, Boston and Washington within 15 minutes.

The supply chain offering is a core element of Train Life Services' service range. This systematic increase in trust between supplier and client is the principle driver behind Alstom's strategy to offer full service contracts to the rail industry, believing that operators will focus more and more on operations rather than maintenance in the future.

Amtrak operates the largest passenger railroad network in North America with 22000 miles (35000 kilometers) of track providing service to over 500 destinations in 46 states. This Acela fleet, which currently comprises 20 high-speed train sets, operates in the northeast corridor, between New York, Boston and Washington.
